I’m Markis Carter — a licensed master barber, faith-driven entrepreneur, and founder of The Ratio Brand.

Like many 1099 earners, I started off hustling. After dropping out of college, I picked up the clippers and turned a side hustle into a six-figure business. But even with cash coming in, I couldn’t show real income. No paper trail meant no access to housing, reliable transportation, loans, or even healthcare. My business wasn’t structured — and my life showed it.

In 2020, I co-founded a successful business with my ex-wife, but I lacked the maturity, systems, and spiritual alignment to sustain it. The fallout led to both a business closure and a divorce — and it exposed the truth: I was making money but had no foundation.

That breaking point led me back to God.

I started studying business through the Word. Realizing Jesus didn’t pick religious leaders — He chose workers: fishermen, tax collectors, and builders. That hit me hard. I realized I had to stop working for myself and start working unto the LORD.

So I learned:

• How to structure income legally and ethically
• How to pay myself through payroll
• How to provide for my family with benefits and stability
• How to make God the CEO, not just the consultant

 

And this was the start of The Ratio Brand, but what is The Ratio?

The Ratio is the balance between what we say we believe — and how we build to reflect it. It’s about accountability.
